Peace and Blessings
Happy Monday. I’m so grateful you have joined me on this journey today. It is the last Monday before the Spring Equinox. It’s time to get ready for a new season of life, a fresh opportunity.
The trees are about to begin their beautiful blooming. After a long season of rest and reset, we sometimes forget about the beautiful flowers that arrive in the spring. I mention tree flowers because there is a tree in my region that grows full, beautiful blooms every spring, but during their growth they develop a strong smell. After the flowers have been there for some time, they begin to stink. Then the flowers fall away, and the leaves cover the tree gloriously.
At times our healing journeys feel just like that tree’s journey. We become encouraged, motivated, and alive ready to flourish on our path. Then it starts to stink, and we may feel discouraged or lose motivation. Just like the tree faces that moment and continues its natural process, consistency allows it to move into the next stage.
Consistency will get us to the next stage.
There is beauty after the stink.
There is also a rest season, but that is a topic for another day. For now, let’s stay consistent so we can move through the “stink” and into the beauty that follows.
Why Consistency Matters in Healing
Healing rarely happens all at once. Most meaningful change takes time, and the results we experience are built layer by layer. The mind and body respond to what we repeat consistently. Whether we are actively healing or unintentionally feeding old patterns, something is always being built.
Every action we take either adds to our wellness or takes away from it. It can be tempting to believe we can do everything in one day and expect immediate, lasting results. In reality, lasting change grows through repeated effort and intention.
For example, speaking kindness to yourself in the mirror one time will not immediately erase years of negative self-talk. Those negative thoughts can create emotional calluses that formed slowly over time. Healing those calluses also takes time. Each kind word, each moment of self-compassion, gently chips away at them until softness returns.
The same is true for positive habits. When you consistently choose peace, encouragement, and care for yourself, you create space where negativity once lived. Over time, those positive choices begin to fill your life with energy that supports your wellness.
The body responds to consistency just as much as the mind does. Think about building muscle. Strength develops through repeated movement, patience, and practice. In the same way, when we stop using our muscles, they weaken over time. Both growth and loss happen through consistent patterns.
Healing works the same way.
What we practice repeatedly is what grows.
Consistency is not about perfection. It is about returning to your healing practices again and again, even on the days when it feels small. It’s about showing up for yourself.
Simple Ways to Practice Consistency on Your Healing Journey
Listed below are three simple ways to implement consistency in your personal healing practice. Don’t forget to mark your accomplishments just as a video game does. You are never starting from the bottom. You are always gaining wisdom from your life’s lessons.
Start With One Small Daily Practice
Consistency begins with something simple. Choose one small action you can repeat each day. This could be drinking a cup of herbal tea in the morning, taking five slow breaths before starting your day, or speaking one kind affirmation to yourself in the mirror. Small practices may feel minor at first, but over time they build a strong foundation for healing.
Speak to Yourself With Intention
The words we speak to ourselves shape the way we feel and respond to life. Try choosing one encouraging phrase and repeating it daily. Something as simple as “I am learning to care for myself” or “Peace is available to me” can slowly replace patterns of negative self-talk. When practiced consistently, intentional words begin to soften the inner voice.
Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection
Healing is not about doing everything perfectly. Some days will feel strong and steady, while others may feel slow or uncertain. Instead of focusing on what you missed, acknowledge the steps you did take. Each effort, no matter how small, is a step toward growth and self-trust.
Key Takeaways for Your Healing Journey
• Healing happens in layers. Small consistent actions build lasting change over time.
• Your mind and body respond to what you practice repeatedly, whether those patterns support your healing or hold you back.
• Consistency does not mean perfection. It simply means returning to your healing practices again and again.
• Even when the journey feels uncomfortable or discouraging, remember: there is beauty after the stink.
I appreciate your time and your willingness to see another perspective on how we can make this journey a little easier with each consistent step we take. There are no quick fixes, but there are many tools that can make the path more bearable.
