Peace and blessings
I am excitedly approaching the Spring Equinox this year. For years, I struggled during seasons of rest. The Autumnal Equinox and Winter Solstice, for as far back as I can remember, burdened my spirit with feelings of sadness and uselessness. I would spiral into a depression that, at times, I unknowingly fed.
Some years back, I learned about seasonal depression. Even with that knowledge, things didn’t immediately change. However, with consistency and patience, I began to weather those seasons more gently. Each year, I added to my routine of health and wellness, slowly subtracting sorrow and heaviness.
The more I commit to becoming a “heal”thier version of myself day by day, the more I begin to see myself in a light I once couldn’t recognize.
It takes patience to see your healing. You see yourself every day. Remember that the consistency you provide yourself may not reflect the reality of where you are until you reflect on it.
I will always say: working on healing never truly ends. Growth doesn’t stop, and healing isn’t something you complete, it’s something you maintain.
Working on my inner child has taught me that, with kindness and patience, I am valuable and worthy of love. This has taken time, real patience, but with every layer I uncover, I understand why it was important to keep going. If I had stopped at the first layer, I wouldn’t have grown enough to reach the next.
“There is beauty after the stink.”
Seeing Myself Differently
I refer to my journey as a sunflower.
If you’ve ever planted or grown anything, you know it takes time and adjustment. I started off as a mere seed. My parents used what they had and as much patience as they could as I developed into a flower. Eventually, I decided to take over my own care.
Some of what was used to grow me no longer served me, some of it was even harming me. I had to take time and patience to remove certain things, observe how I felt, and then add new things in. With patience and pruning, I grew stronger.
At times, I’ve grown so much that I needed to be repotted. And at other times, I’ve wilted. Too much or too little of anything can cause that, even when you think you have it all figured out.
I challenge you to see yourself as a beautiful plant.
Take a moment to reflect:
• What has been your best soil?
Your foundation: your home, the people around you, and the boundaries you set.
• How do you water yourself best?
What you consume: food, media, music. Balance and discipline matter. What does your healthy balance look like?
• What is your sunlight, and how much do you need?
How you pour into yourself and others. Do you create space for what helps you thrive? Are you receiving nourishing light or just surface-level energy?
Take a moment to notice how you are growing.
And ask yourself are you being patient with your ups and downs while you heal?
