Balancing the Storm Within: Planting with intention

Holistically Honey is a space for encouragement, self-care, and natural wellness as we learn to move through life with intention and grace

Peace and Blessings,

As we continue Balancing the Storm Within, we begin to look at what we plant after the winds settle. Everything around us plants something in our minds. Positivity grows positivity, just as negativity breeds negativity. Every day, we make a choice about what we are planting and what we are growing.

Planting with Intention

Planting with intention is being purposeful about how we treat ourselves, as we are our own gardens. We receive what we place around us, physically, mentally, and sometimes both. Just as with an actual garden, when it lacks nourishment and water, it reflects that neglect.

If we surround ourselves with chaos and move without intention, that same chaos will grow within us. Can you still grow without substance? Yes, but it will be difficult, and the results will reflect that imbalance.

Physical Intentions

What we expose our bodies to and who we share ourselves with is a form of physical consumption. Whether you follow a flexible diet or strict practices such as a raw vegan lifestyle, it’s important to eat with intention.

Ask yourself: What am I putting into my body, and how was it made?

Quick, processed foods often provide little substance, just filler. This doesn’t support your body or mind at their highest function. Planning your meals, even day by day, allows you to be intentional about what you’re receiving and the care it takes to prepare it. Being intentional is having a plan.

There are also plants and herbs that support the mind and body through change, stress, and mental fog. Here are a few to explore:

  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint
  • Ashwagandha
  • Rhodiola rosea
  • Siberian ginseng
  • Lemon balm
  • Valerian root

These herbs can be used in teas, tinctures, or supplements and may help reduce stress, ease anxiety, and improve clarity and focus. Always consider your personal health needs and consult a medical professional when necessary.

Physical consumption also includes who you share your body with. The energy you allow around you impacts your intentions. If you are sharing yourself with someone who does not breathe life into their own, how might that energy transfer into yours? How we care for ourselves also affects how we show up in our connections.

Mental Intentions

Being mentally intentional sets the tone for your emotions and how you care for yourself. Have you ever spent time scrolling endlessly, then wondered why you feel unfulfilled or disconnected? That’s mental planting.

Intentional mental planting requires you to slow down and meet yourself. To plant seeds of joy, you must first discover what truly brings you joy. And it’s okay if some intentions don’t take root in this season.

Storms of growth will either wash them away or reveal what needs to be cleared, creating space for something more aligned.

Here are a few journal prompts to support intentional living:

  • What do I enjoy doing alone and with others?
  • How am I showing myself that I am loved and important?
  • Am I setting boundaries that honor me? If not, how can I begin to change that?
  • What am I planting in my mind and body daily (TV, social media, food, movement, etc.)?
  • Do I have boundaries around what I consume and engage with?

Ways to implement intentional living:

  • Create a daily schedule. Plan your work, meals, and screen time. This helps you take control of what you consume and is especially helpful during times of change.
  • Speak positively into your life. Your words carry energy. Create affirmations that align with where you’re going. Forgive yourself and speak grace over your journey.
  • Move your body. You are energy. Sway in the storm. There is a time for stillness and a time for movement, honor both.
  • Practice gratitude. However you choose to express it, make time for it. Shift from complaint to consistent appreciation.

Planting intentions into your daily life takes time, especially during seasons of change. It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to restart.

The beauty of a storm is that it washes away what no longer serves you.
The beauty of planting is discovering the rhythm of what nourishes your garden.

Balancing the storm within teaches us awareness. Planting with intention teaches us what to do with that awareness.

Gratitude,

Honey
